The 1.4 TFSI 185 is the fastest engine in the Audi A1. So far there are only two reviews for it, and both are a bit underwhelmed by it.
Thanks to the addition of a turbo and a supercharger, the dinky little engine produces 182 bhp and a more than ample 184lb/ft of torque, so the A1 is by no means a slouch by supermini standards. There’s punch right across the rev range, and the standard fit DSG automatic makes the pace feel even more seamless. It’s also quite tame under less frantic driving conditions, and the claimed 47 mpg is quite impressive for such a potent car.
However, quite a few testers weren’t too impressed with the overall package – both testers reckon it’s not quite as engaging to drive as some of its more focuses rivals. It’s also almost mechanically identical underneath to the VW Polo GTI and Skoda Fabia vRS, yet is more expensive than either of them.
Overall, it’s a good all-round car with impressive performance, decent efficiency and a nice throaty exhaust note. However, it’s not the best car in the range, and it’s possible to get the same thrills for less money, so we’d recommend having a look at some of the other engines in the range.
