Volvo used to be known for producing dull but safe estate cars – something that they still do, quietly going about their business without making a fuss or a ripple.
Which is a shame, because a lot of potential owners are missing out on some fine cars. OK, a few of them – we’re talking about the C30, C70, and S40 here – are only average, but the others are really rather good.
The XC-cars do a very good job of transporting families across rough ground, motorways and the school run with equal aplomb and the V50/60/70 are quality estate cars that will last their lucky owners for years.
All of Volvo’s cars drive well too, and are loaded with safety equipment - both passive and active - that will give a sense of reassurance to those with a family; with age comes wisdom and with wisdom comes the realisation that Volvo do rather a fine job on the whole!
