The Aston Martin V12 Vantage Roadster is the convertible version of the V12 Vantage. It has the same 565hp V12 engine, similar gorgeous looks and it makes an incredible noise that almost justifies the £150,000 purchase price alone. It’s a rival for the Porsche 911 Turbo cabriolet and the Bentley Continental GTC.

The interior is like any Aston Martin sports car – covered in high-quality leather and with gorgeous touches that never fail to impress. The V12 Vantage Roadster’s real selling point, however, is the way it makes you feel when you drive it.

The 6.0-litre V12 accelerates hard – fast enough to get from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 201mph. Critics love how it encourages fast driving along twisty, roads, with the engine’s incredible exhaust note blaring out around the countryside. Stick the roof up and head to the motorway, however, and the V12 Vantage Roadster is a refined and comfortable cruiser.

Around £150,000 is a lot of money, but you do get an exquisite-looking, beautifully built car that’s packed with character. The biggest fly in the ointment is that you can get similar thrills from the other powerful, loud and brash British convertible on the market – the Jaguar F-Type V8. It’s almost £60,000 less and certainly worth considering – but if you want one of the most desirable cars on the road, you’d be a fool to overlook the Aston.
