Aston Martin have just unveiled details of the Vantage S, the most hardcore version of the V8 Vantage yet.
Aston Martin have just unveiled details of the Vantage S, the most hardcore version of the V8 Vantage yet.
The Vantage S has the same 4.7 litre engine as the V8 Vantage, but power is increased to 430bhp and torque to 490Nm. Thats just slightly more than the N420 version of the V8 model.
Aston Martin have also designed a new Sportshift manual transmission for the S, with 7 short gear ratios. Upgraded suspension, brakes and a stability control system will also make it even better to drive.
The V8 Vantage sounds gorgeous, but the Vantage S should sound even better, thanks to a new exhaust muffler and bypass valve map.
The styling team have been to work on the S too, giving it a lower front bumper, larger air intake and new wheels. Redesigned side sills and rear bumper also help optically widen the car.
The Vantage S will be available as both a Roadster and Coupe. Various sources are reporting the price for the Coupe will be 102,500 and 110,700 for the Roadster.
Verdict
The V8 Vantage has been a great success for Aston Martin, and the V12 Vantage is a brilliant supercar. Although the rise in power over the N420 Vantage has only been modest (10bhp), it will be interesting to see how much difference the new transmission makes to the experience.
It looks like the Vantage S should nicely bridge the gap between the V8 Vantage (buzzScore 8.4) and the awesome V12 Vantage (buzzScore 9.4).
