The first version of the Audi Q7 was released back in 2007, and it went down a storm because it gave buyers of luxury seven-seater 4x4s an alternative to the Range Rover.
In 2015 Audi released an all-new version of the Q7 and it’s better than ever. Here’s a dimensions guide to help you decide whether you can really live with the latest version.
The previous Q7 was a huge car, and thankfully this latest version is slightly shorter and narrower, but nevertheless it’s still a big thing to drive around. It’s actually larger than the latest version of the BMW X5 and the new Volvo XC90. If you pay a little extra, you can order your Q7 with four-wheel-steering, which turns the rear wheels to help guide the car around tight turns at low speeds – perfect for getting up tight driveways.

Even though the latest Audi Q7 is shorter and narrower than before, the actual cabin itself has increased in length, plus it boasts even more headroom. It provides more space inside than the BMW X5 and Volvo XC90, beating them in terms of headroom, shoulder room and elbow room. The Volvo, however, offers slightly more headroom for the occupants seated in the third row.

The Q7’s boot isn’t quite as big as Volvo XC90’s, however it does trump the room available in the back of the BMW X5 and even the Range Rover Sport with all the seats folded.

Fuel tank capacity
The Q7 has a 75-litre fuel tank in both of the 3.0-litre diesel versions. This means the Q7 can achieve a maximum theoretical range of 818 miles from the 215hp 3.0-litre diesel on 18-inch wheels, which gets a claimed 49.6mpg. The maximum range possible for the more powerful diesel unit is 790 miles at 47.9mpg. The theoretical driving range drops when you specify larger alloy wheels.
The Audi Q7 is a big car and as such it isn’t the easiest car to manoeuvre around in tight spaces. With a turning circle of 12.4m, it’s just beaten by the Range Rover Sport by 0.1m and the Volvo XC90 has a turning circle a whole 0.5m smaller. However, with the optional all-wheel steering specified which turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels; the turning circle is just 11.4 metres, thus beating the competition.

Audi Q7 towing weight
If towing heavy items is your priority then the Q7 is a great choice. The maximum unbraked trailer load it can haul around is 2,800kg. However, if you specify the adaptive air suspension, this figure increases to 3,500kg. The maximum unbraked towing weight is 750kg.

Thanks to the various weight-saving measures, the new Q7 is 325kg lighter than before which helps the handling, comfort and fuel efficiency of the vehicle. It now weighs in at 2,060kg. The maximum gross weight limit of the Q7 is 2,940kg.
