Love or hate the styling of Nissans Juke, you cant help but notice it.
Its even more imposing in Juke R spec, crammed full of Nissan GT-R supercar parts to make one of the craziest bits of kit weve seen in years.
But in Nismo trim – Nismo being Nissan Motorsport, the company’s official tuning arm – the Juke could provide a nice balance between performance and usability.
Nismo’s tuning boffins have got to work on the styling, chassis and engine, making a car which is a little harder and faster than the standard 1.6-litre DIG-T model. The turbocharged four-cylinder has risen in power from 180hp to just under 200hp, and there’s now 184lb ft of torque spread between 2,400rpm and 4,800rpm.
Helping to shuffle that power to the road you get standard front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox, or the option of four-wheel drive – inspired by the GT-R, again – and a continuously-variable transmission. 62mph will whizz by in a reasonable 7.8 seconds and the Juke tops out at 134mph, in the manual car.
If you think those both sound a little low for the power on offer, do remember that the Juke isnt the most svelte of shapes. Nismo has worked hard to change that with a new, aerodynamic bodykit. It includes lower front and rear bumpers, wider wings, sill skirts, a modified grille and a tailgate spoiler. Front and rear lift has been reduced, yet drag has remained the same. To prove it, the more powerful Nismo has the same 40.9mpg combined economy rating as the regular DIG-T.
A little more visual enhancement comes in the shape of the red pinstriping details and the red mirrors, echoing Nismo’s official red, white and black colour scheme. Some 18-inch Nismo alloys on lower and stiffened suspension finish the modified look.
Inside, you get suede-trimmed sport seats, Alcantara and red-stitched leather on the steering wheel, and some moody black interior detailing. Exterior colour options are split between Storm White, Pearl Black and Blade Silver.
