No, its not a photoshopped image. This is a real car, and its ready to go into production. This six wheel supercar is called the Covini C6W, were not quite sure what to make of it!
Ferrucio Covinti, the founder, explained to us that having six wheels on a high performance car makes sense. It gives better grip, reduces the risk of aquaplaning and lessens the impact of a tyre blowout. The other big advantage is that there are brake discs on the two extra wheels, so the braking force is hugely increased.
Weve seen far uglier concepts, its a good looking car. With clear design influences from Ascari, Koenigsegg and a hint of Carrera GT in there. As with most supercars designed by small companies, the interior looks like it could with a little work.
Its powered by a 4.2 litre V8 engine from an Audi, producing 440bhp, giving a claimed top speed of 185 mph.
Theres no word yet on the cost, or on how many they plan to sell. Its been around for a while now, but last week they announced they were ready to start producing them. We wouldnt be surprised it they manage to shift a few though, theres always a small demand for unique supercars.
Who knows, perhaps one day all sportscars will be 6-wheelers! Somehow we doubt it though...
