Hyundai i30 and Tourer sizes and dimensions guide

The Hyundai i30 is a capable rival for hatchbacks such as the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Volkswagen Golf. Priced competitively and offering a good range of standard equipment, the i30 is a good all-rounder that has plenty of appeal for buyers. It also comes in a practical Tourer estate version for those in need of more space.

Here’s a comprehensive guide to the car’s dimensions to help you decide if it’s the right choice for you. We’ll also compare it to its closest rivals to see how it fares.

Hyundai i30 and Tourer exterior dimensions

The i30 and its Tourer sibling compete in a very crowded area of the market, so Hyundai ended up sizing its duo on the smaller scale to make them stand out against those who dislike the ever-increasing sizes of modern cars. At 4.3-metres, the hatchback is slightly larger than the current Golf, but smaller than the Astra, Focus and the Mazda 3 – the latter of which is 165mm longer. Similarly the Tourer is a little shorter than the Ford Focus Estate and the closely related Kia Cee’d Sportswagon. Both i30 variants are a little narrower than rivals, making them marginally more useful in tight modern parking spaces.

Exterior dimensions
Length (Tourer) 4,300mm (4,485mm)
Width excluding mirrors 1,780mm
Height (Tourer) 1,465mm (1,500mm)

Hyundai i30 and Tourer interior dimensions

Despite being slightly smaller than rivals outside, the i30 and Tourer are actually rather spacious inside. Headroom both front and rear is slightly better than the class favourites, and legroom is noticeably improved over both the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf, particularly in the back where it’s nearly as spacious as the VW’s front seats.

Interior dimensions
Headroom front/rear (Tourer) 1,021/967mm (1,033/1,005mm)
Legroom front/rear 1,067/940mm

Hyundai i30 and Tourer boot space

In recent years, there’s been added emphasis on the practicality of hatchbacks such as the i30. Crossovers such as the Nissan Qashqai steal buyers thanks, in part, to the added space behind the rear seats.

The i30 has a very reasonably sized boot, but not one that really challenges the Honda Civic‘s 477-litres – the Civic Tourer similarly beats the i30 Tourer’s loadspace by 96-litres. Still, neither i30 has anything to be ashamed of and both offer more than enough plenty of space for the average family’s belongings.

Boot space
Boot space seats up (Tourer) 378 litres (528 litres)
Boot space seats folded (Tourer) 1,316 litres (1,642 litres)

Hyundai i30 and Tourer fuel tank and turning circle

Hyundai has clearly designed the i30 range to closely compete with its rivals because, again, both models sit in the middle ground when it comes to fuel tank size and turning circle. Thrifty engines mean the most economical i30s should be able to cover 914 miles without needing to be refilled, but the sporty Turbo model’s range could be as low as 451 miles. The turning circle is a good 0.7 metres less than the Honda Civic’s but, otherwise, is broadly in-line with rivals.

Fuel tank and turning circle
Fuel tank 53 litres
Turning Circle 10.6 metres

Hyundai i30 and Tourer weights and towing limits

Both the i30 and Tourer are roughly mid-pack when it comes to weight, too. Certain rivals such as the Civic have base models that weigh less, but the i30 is not a heavy vehicle and, as such, towing limits are not that high. The Tourer is marginally better at towing but will only work on smaller tourers.

Weight and towing limits
Weight (Tourer) 1,314-1,456kg (1,373-1,496kg)
Towing limit 1,200-1,500kg
