Audi A1 gets smart new trim levels and new engine

Audi have just revealed a number of additions to the A1, including two new trims and a new engine. We take a look…

New 2.0 TDI Engine

Theres a new 2.0 TDI that joining the only other diesel engine in the A1, the 1.6 TDI. The key stats for it with the manual gearbox are:
Power: 143 PS
Acceleration: 8.2 seconds to 60
Top Speed: 135mph
MPG: 68.9
CO2: 108 g/km
Car Tax: 20 a year
Audi havent announced prices for all the 2.0 TDI models, but through our car data weve found them:
2.0 TDI Sport – 17,890
2.0 TDI Contrast Edition – 19,240
2.0 TDI S Line – 19,535
2.0 TDI Black Edition – 20,535

Black Edition

The Black Edition trim is based on the S Line and will be available on the 1.4 TFSI 185PS and the new 2.0 TDI engine. It will cost 1,100 over the S Line and includes a black grille surround, tinted rear windows, 18inch special edition alloys (S Line has 17 inch) and Xenon Plus headlights with dayime running lights. It also has full electronic climate control (the S Line only has manual air-con) and a 180 Watt sound system.

Contrast Edition

Audi A1 Contrast Edition
The Contrast Edition is based on the Sport model and costs 1,350 extra. You can get it with any engine except for the 1.4 TFSI 185PS. It includes a contrasting colour for the roof edges, a subtle body styling pack and 17inch special edition two-tone alloy wheels. An optional extra will be a roof spoiler, which is also in the contrasting colour.

Verdict

The new diesel engine sounds interesting, one of the resounding critiscisms with the only other diesel, the 1.6 TDI, was that its too slow. Running costs are broadly similar with the 1.6 TDI, so its likely to be a popular choice.
The two new trim levels are mainly for aesthetics, but we would expect the Black Edition to be popular with those looking for the full Audi luxury experience in a small car.
