If you’ve been putting off the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG because it’s a little slow, we’re happy to recommend the name of a good psychiatrist.
Alternatively, you can now pop down to your local Mercedes dealer, and put down a deposit on the C63 AMG ‘Edition 507′, with 50 horses more than the standard car.
With suitable massaging, the engineers at Affalterbach have encouraged 507 horsepower from the 6.3-litre V8, with 610 Nm of torque ready to fry the tyres at 5,200rpm. Engineering knowledge from the SLS AMG supercar has filtered down to the marginally less insane C63, whose engine now has forged pistons and connecting rods, and a lightweight crankshaft.
The net result is a 0 to 62 mph sprint two tenths quicker than the standard car – coupe and saloon models now get there in 4.2 seconds, the estate one tenth slower. Would you notice out on the road? Probably not. Does it make for good pub ammo? Absolutely.
Each variant runs into the limiter (natch) at 174 mph, raised over the standard one-five-five thanks to the AMG Driver’s package. This also nets buyers attendance of a driver training session at the AMG Driving Academy. Lots of fun, and probably wise…
Still, you can do silly speeds safe in the knowledge AMG has also upgraded the brakes, with 360mm composite ventilated discs at the front grabbed by six-piston calipers. The rear discs are grabbed by four-pot calipers, all of which are painted a menacing shade of red.
Other exterior changes are influenced by the Black Series models, including a vented bonnet, 19-inch AMG alloys, and matte graphite AMG sports stripes above the sill panels. The spoiler, mirrors and other details are high-gloss black, and matte platinum paint from the Designo options range is an optional finish.
Inside, there’s leather, Alcantara, and AMG badging as far as the eye can see. UK pricing and exact spec, however, are yet to be seen – but should appear after the car’s unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

You have to hand it to AMG – they know how to make an appealing car. We were struggling to see where you may need an extra fifty ponies every day, but the tweaked engine and extra performance look as good on paper as they’ll feel on the road. Don’t expect it to come cheap, though…
