Volkswagen have just released the first photos of the brand new Beetle. Its longer, wider and lower than the last one and features a whole load of improvements.
The new Beetle will be available to buy from this Summer, with first deliveries to customers coming in early 2012. There will be three petrol engines to choose between, a 1.2-litre TSI 105 PS, a 1.4-litre TSI 160 PS and a 2.0-litre TSI 200 PS. A diesel also joins the line-up, in the form of a 1.6-litre 105 PS, which will be capable of 65.7mpg.
Volkswagen claim it will be one of the safest cars on the road, due to a strong body structure, ESP and 6 airbags.
This Beetle will be 152mm longer, 84mm wider and 12mm shorter than the old new Beetle, it will have significantly more boot space too.
Its certainly a better-looking Beetle, with more coupe-like styling. The criticisms of the last Beetle were that it was cramped inside, the boot was too small and the high price. It will be interesting to see whether this one can overcome those weaknesses.
