Peugeot 508 RXH Hybrid – Green, Rugged and Luxurious

Recently Peugeot has really been trying to raise its game in the luxury and coolness arenas, with the sexy 508 saloon and SW (their name for estate) and the 3008 crossover with its high-up ride and oodles of practicality.
One Peugeot which is especially exciting us is the new 4×4 508 RXH, which will share a lot of the Citroen DS5s technology and is essentially a slightly jacked-up, toughened and ready-for-action diesel-electric hybrid crossover estate car.

It will sport the same kind of plastic bumpers and other trinkets as the Audi Allroad and Skoda Octavia Scout, to enhance its intended confidence on various terrains. Its said to be able to climb and descend hilly ground quite capably if you should desire to venue off the beaten track on your way to a business meeting or on a family journey.
508 RXH interior
Focused on the all-important business and family sectors first and foremost, the 508 RXH needs to be filled to the brim with kit and indeed it will be. Parking sensors front and back, parallel parking assistance, a stylish panoramic glass roof, acoustic laminated and tinted side windows to keep the cabin as hushed as possible, USB connectivity and even a heads-up display!

Its green credentials will also need to be strong and yes, its set to score highly in this area too, boasting very impressive emissions of 107g/km. The Hybrid4-based diesel-electric hybrid powertrain is comprised of Peugeots 163bhp 2 litre HDi diesel engine powering the front wheels and a 37bhp electric motor powering the rear wheels.
The 508RXH will be able to run in ZEV mode, meaning 100% electric and silent running and all this whilst still kicking out 200bhp, which will be more than enough for most people. Business In Kind (BIK) will also be remarkably low at only 12% and the quoted fuel economy should reduce your trips to the pump, at 68.9mpg. The top speed is 132mph and it will get you from 0-62mph in just under 10 seconds.

Available to order now, with deliveries and showroom appearances expected in May 2012, the new Peugeot 508RXH will have a price tag of 33,695.

The 508 RXH really does sound like it will effectively blend estate car practicality, off-road ruggedness, modern technology and economical hybrid power into a great overall package. The 508 SW, on which its based gets great reviews, as does the Hybrid engine, so we’d expect the critics to like this.
