We like the Peugeot RCZ. In fact, we like it a lot – enough to award it a 9/10 rating when we reviewed the diesel variant
back in May, and it also gets a healthy buzzScore of 8.2 in our review section – higher than an Audi TT.
If theres one aspect of the car that puts some people off though, its the huge, gaping grille that dominates the front end. It grew on us over a week of driving the car, but for some its just a little too much.
With a newly-unveiled facelift, Peugeot has given the RCZ the same treatment that improved the looks of the 107 city car. A new dual-layer grille makes it look a little less err, insane than it did before, while the huge headlights have been softened. The bonnet line is also a little lower and the badge now sits alone on the front end, rather than in a recess. It all conspires to make the RCZ look a little less gormless than it did before.
And happily, Peugeot has resisted changing the bits that worked well anyway. That double-bubble glass roof is still one of the best design details on any car on sale, and the whole car still looks squat and purposeful on its large alloy wheels.
You can still personalise the car as much as before, with various roof, roof bar, paintwork and trim options, all of which youre better off discovering when the facelifted car hits the Peugeot website. The car you see in the pictures features Pearlescent White paint, matt black roof bars and a gloss black roof, and a new 19 two-tone Technical alloy wheel design.
The engine range is unchanged, with 156 and 200 bhp 1.6-litre THP petrol engines (the less powerful of which is available with an automatic transmission), and the 163 bhp 2.0-litre HDi turbodiesel, which delivers up to 53.2 mpg. We managed a fairly easy 45 mpg in our own test of the pre-facelift diesel.
More exciting still is the impending RCZ R – a 260 bhp monster, the most powerful production Peugeot ever. It gets special suspension and wheels, as well as a Torsen limited-slip differential to maximise traction.
Available from: Early 2013 (RCZ R – late 2013)

The RCZ is already one of the best models that Peugeot makes, so giving it a face that most will find more attractive should keep the sales tally clicking away.
Were most excited by the RCZ R, though. With that much power it promises to be quite a rapid device, and will really give the RCZ some bite to back up those striking looks.
