Along with the Geneva Motor Show unveiling ofkoda’s Octavia Estate, the Czech manufacturer has announced prices and specifications for the new model.
Sharing the same Volkswagen group platform as the European Car of the Year Mk7 Golf, the all-new Mk3 Octavia Estate is 90mm longer than the outgoing car, with 110mm extra in the wheelbase to increase interior space. The load space of 1,740 litres is 85 litres more than the preceding model, while it can carry objects of up to 2.92 metres long.
The range comprises 13 different models, across four engines, two gearboxes and three trim levels. The entry level S model is available from 16,790 with the 105PS 1.2 TSI petrol engine, but a more expensive 105PS 1.4 TDI – emitting just 99g/km CO2 – is also available.
Trim is far from spartan on even this most basic model, with standard toys like hill hold, halogen projector headlamps, automatic post crash braking system and the VAG Bolero 8 inch touchscreen display.
Moving up to SE gets you the full range of engines, adding a 140PS 1.4 TSI petrol and the 150PS 2.0 CDi, while the two diesels can be specified with a DSG transmission. Starting at 17,990, the SE adds front fog lights, dual zone air conditioning and a driver fatigue sensor.
The top trim Elegance is available with all but the smallest petrol engine and includes leather alcantara seats, intelligent light assistant and the Amundsen satellite navigation system.
In addition, a GreenLine engine – the koda branding of VW BlueMotion -will be offered later in 2013, producing just 89g/km CO2.
Prices from: 16,790 (1.2 TSI S)
Available from: June 2013
The outgoing Octavia Estate had a reputation for being a lot of car for the money and the new model looks like continuing that ethos. With class-leading luggage space and a significant improvement on fuel economy, it again looks like being the choice of the budget conscious family.
