Volkswagen Golf Pricing Announced - Temptingly Low Entry Prices

Dont adjust your internet - this really is the Der Neue Golf. Yes, it looks similar to the old one, but underneath the evolved bodywork is a brand new, lighter, leaner platform.
Actually, the crisp lines and chunky details seem to improve with every look, which is just as well as theyll soon be everywhere.
And with pricing that undercuts the previous models lowest entry point, theyll soon be flying out of showrooms.
Just 16,330 will get you behind the wheel of the VW Golf S with its 1.2-litre, 85PS petrol engine and five-speed manual gearbox. Standard equipment is impressive, with seven airbags, ABS, stability control, and an electronic differential lock to improve traction. Inside, you get a 5.8-inch colour touchscreen to control your digital radio, old-fashioned compact discs, fruit-themed MP3 players and Bluetooth gubbins. Air-con is also standard. We put together a full page of carwow VW Golf deals so be sure to check that out.
Despite that list of toys, youd still have to be a bit Scrooge-like to plump for the basic 1.2, a car likely to be on the receiving end of rice pudding jokes. The 105PS turbocharged 1.2 (17,340 in S trim) will be much better - weve tried it in a Beetle, and its punchy.
122 (18,100 for S models) and 140PS 1.4 TSI (22,050, GT trim only) engines are also available, the latter with clever cylinder deactivation tech to boost economy to 60.1 mpg. Still want that diesel?
Oh, you do? In that case you might like the 105PS 1.6 TDI (from 18,955 in S trim), or the 150PS 2.0 TDI (SE and above, 21,305). All of the above come with stop-start tech and battery regeneration, to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
SE trim gets niceties such as Automatic Distance Control and City Emergency Braking with electric everything and leather on the wheel, gearknob and handbrake. Sporty GT trim brings 17-inch Dijon alloys to the table, dark glass, gloss black trim, Alcantara seats and integrated navigation.
Dual-clutch DSG automatic transmissions (only available on 5-door models at the moment) add another 1,415 to the average Golf, while fixed-price servicing for 3 years or 30,000 miles will set you back 329.
Frankly theres far too much to list, so for more wed suggest you start bugging VW for a shiny brochure.

The outgoing Golf is still a dominant force in the small family car class, winning comparison tests left, right and centre. The new model isnt only likely to be a better car, but you can get hold of one for less money, and itll cost you less to run.
What youre looking at here then, is a likely class leader. Choose engine and trim combos wisely however, as its not impossible to spend another third on the purchase price when ticking the option boxes
