Volkswagen Groove Up And Rock Up Join City Car Range

The VW Up is one of the best city cars you can buyright now - in fact, it's one of the best cars available for under 10,000 too.

Now Volkswagen is enhancing the Up range with two special edition models, available to order now.

The Groove Up and Rock Up add a host of trim and equipment features, and both sit above the 10,665 High Up trim level.

Groove Up models are available in most Up colour combinations, but a new Orange shade also joins the range, exclusive to the model.

Other exterior enhancements include 16-inch 'Upsilon' alloy wheels, tinted glass, and black gloss wing mirrors. Groove Ups are available in both three and five-door body styles.

Step inside and you're faced with 'Groove Anthracite' interior trim, which features and orange stripe to match that new exterior colour. The leather steering wheel and gearknob are stitched with orange thread, as are the floor mats. The dashboard is body colour, depending on the exterior shade you choose.

Specification is high (Up...), with the excellent Maps More infotainment device taking centre stage. Air conditioning is also standard, but the main draw is a new Fender-branded audio system with six speakers and a subwoofer.

The 3-door only Rock Up (pictured) is the sportier of the pair, with a gloss black body kit and a body-length anthracite stripe from bonnet to tailgate.

It shares the Groove's alloy wheels, Maps More device and aircon, but offers more interior trim colours with Anthracite, Salsa red/grey and Beech/grey options.

A new exterior paint shade, Oryx White, is also available - until now, a Premium shade available only on higher-spec VW Golf models.

Both new special editions use the Up's 1.0-litre, 75 PS three-cylinder petrol engine - giving both combined economy of 60.1 mpg and CO2 of just 108 g/km.

Conclusion

The excruciating trim names continue, but the new Rock Up and Groove Up give buyers something just a little different from the regular Up models.

We're still of the opinion that even the basic Up should do the job for most buyers, but if you don't mind spending the extra then you might as well go the whole way and order a special edition - the Groove Up's Fender audio system will be a must for music-lovers.
