Further upgrades revealed for new SEAT Ibiza Cupra

The SEAT Ibiza Cupra is a sporty hatchback that rivals the likes of the Mini Cooper S and Volkswagen Polo GTI. This facelifted model applies the updates from the regular hatch and introduces a new turbocharged petrol engine.

Improvements to the interior include a restyled dashboard, steering wheel and infotainment system coming from the bigger Leon hatchback. To complement the SEAT’s new-found quality, soft-touch plastics are used on the dash.

A 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine replaces the outgoing 1.4. Acceleration and horsepower are both improved and 0-62mph takes just 6.7 seconds. The top speed is now 146mph. This hasn’t harmed fuel economy, however, with 47mpg possible.

Adaptive suspension is now optional and allows the driver to select their driving mode between comfort and sport.

The Ibiza generally undercuts its main rivals on price so we expect the latest Ibiza Cupra to cost less than the £18,900 Volkswagen Polo GTI.
