Hyundai has revealed a raft of updates to the popular Santa Fe SUV. The Kia Sorento and Land Rover Discovery Sport rival gets minor styling updates, a cleaner, more powerful engine and extra safety systems.
Just one engine will be available to UK buyers, now updated to comply with the latest Euro 6 emissions standards. The 197hp 2.2-litre diesel pumps out a hefty 325lb ft of torque. Those figures are increases of 3hp and 14lb ft over the old unit, and it gives the Santa Fe the makings of an ideal tow car.
Current Santa Fe owners will notice the new car’s front end features the latest hexagonal family grille, sitting above a tweaked front bumper that houses new LED daytime running lights. The rear bumper has also been tidied up, while the taillights feature new LED graphics. New alloy wheel designs ranging from 17- to 19-inches in diameter complete the new look.
Inside, the changes are similarly modest. The switchgear on the centre console has been rearranged for a more modern appearance, while plastics and materials are said to improve perceived quality. The infotainment system is new, now with DAB radio and a 12-speaker 630W audio system.
Available with either five or seven-seats, the sliding middle bench has an extra 15mm of travel compared to the outgoing model, allowing up to 270mm of movement back and forth for extra rear legroom or boot space. The boot remains a generous 585 litres in five-seat models.
Boosting its safety credentials further, Hyundai has introduced new technology to the 2015 Santa Fe. Autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, lights which turn to ‘see’ around corners, and an around view monitor are all included as standard.
Hyundai has yet to reveal the updated model’s exact prices, but are likely to remain unchanged from the current car’s £27,800 to £33,720 range. Sales will begin before the end of the year.
