Jaguar XF 4×4 models revealed

The Jaguar XF executive saloon can now be ordered with all-wheel-drive. Available only with the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine, the addition of all-wheel-drive is said to maximise traction and all-weather ability, while retaining the sporting character of rear-wheel-drive XF models.

This isn’t the first all-wheel-drive model from Jaguar, because the British brand previously offered the previous version of the XF (and current XJ) with more traction in North America, where harsh winters make all-wheel-drive essential for many drivers. The smaller Jaguar XE has had the option of driving all four wheels since late 2015, as has the sporty F-Type.

As in the XE, all-wheel-drive in the XF is only available with the 178hp diesel engine and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, shared across much of both Jaguar and Land Rover‘s line-up. The lightweight construction of the all-wheel-drive system should mean that the XF’s impressive dynamics remain mostly unchanged, just with the security of extra grip when needed – often all-wheel-drive systems add a significant amount of weight to a car.

Other changes include the introduction of a configurable dynamics programme, which gives drivers a choice of configurations for the steering, suspension and throttle response. Cars that have Jaguar’s new InTouch infotainment system will also benefit from Dynamic-i — which displays their driving information on the 10.2-inch touchscreen.

Jaguar claims class-leading fuel economy and emissions of 57.7mpg and 129g/km of CO2 — for comparison, an Audi A6 with 2.0-litre diesel and quattro returns 57.6mpg and 128g/km of CO2, albeit with a manual gearbox. Still, the XF remains a cost effective choice for business and private owners alike — priced from £36,350, with first deliveries to be made later this Spring.
