Jeep Cherokee Overland: complete guide

Jeep has announced a new range-topping trim for the Cherokee SUV. The new model is called Overland and mirrors top-of-the-range models from the rest of its lineup including the larger Grand Cherokee and more rugged Wrangler.

As befits this top-spec model, the Overland gets a shiny metal effect grille, cladding on the doors that matches the body colour along with matching wheelarches and bumpers. In addition, new 18-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights and special Overland badges complete the extra goodies.

Jeep Cherokee Overland driving and engines

The Overland is only offered with Jeep’s 2.2-litre 200hp diesel engine mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Compared to 2015 models, the ‘box has reconfigured gear ratios helping it emit 149g/km of CO2 and return an average of 50.4mpg.

True to its off-road roots, the Overland comes with a choice of two four-wheel drive powertrains. Active Drive I is standard fitment and operates in front-wheel-drive mode until the car detects slip and engages the rear axle. Alternatively, you can step up to Active Drive II that features different tuning for more aggressive off-roading in addition to a low-ratio first gear.

The Cherokee Overland costs from £38,745 with the regular four-wheel drive or from £39,950 with the enhanced Active Drive II four-wheel drive. This represents a modest £1,950 increase over an equivalent Night Eagle model.
