The Mazda 6 is being facelifted for 2017. It keeps its handsome looks, but adds clever G-Vectoring Control technology to help smooth the transitions between accelerating, braking and turning by managing engine power more effectively. Read on for full details…
GVC technology adjusts engine torque in response to steering input for better control, traction and handling. Essentially, it cuts engine power when entering a turn to throw the car’s weight onto the front wheels for more control. It then reintroduces power leaving a turn to push the weight back towards the rear wheels for enhanced stability..
A range of petrol and diesel engine options are available for the 2017 Mazda 6, with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic gearboxes. The two 2.0-litre petrols produce 143hp or 163hp. Two 2.2-litre diesels with 148hp or 173hp complete the engine line-up.
The diesel engines feature new technology that raises responsiveness and reduces engine noise. Refinement has been a major focus for Mazda so there have been improvements to the door seals, while more sound insulation materials and laminated front side windows have been brought in to decrease road and wind noise.
Mazda’s range of i-Activesense safety technology is included on the updated version of the midsize Japanese saloon and estate. This includes Traffic Sign Recognition, which identifies no entry and speed limit signs to provide alerts to the driver.
Advanced Smart City Brake Support is also featured. This technology replaces the previous near-infrared laser with a forward-sensing camera to widen the system’s range for vehicle and pedestrian detection.
Alongside the new Machine Grey paint finish, the 2017 Mazda 6 also benefits from a revised interior and additional gadgets. There’s a new steering wheel design, as well as an updated heads-up colour display with higher resolution. It also boasts a 4.6-inch, full-colour multi-information display with improved graphics between the dials.
