Mercedes claims this will be the world’s most comfortable convertible. Heated arm rests, rear seats and a neck-level heating system all help achieve this aim. Other features include an automated climate control and roof system. This sets the temperature and air conditioning automatically taking the roof’s position into account.
The S-Class Cabriolet will have the same engines found in the S-Class Coupe, including the 4.7-litre V8 petrol producing 455hp. This is available with a nine-speed automatic gearbox with intelligent technology that helps deliver a dynamic and efficient drive.
The S 63 is the AMG-developed version with a 5.5-litre petrol engine that can take the Cabriolet from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds. Its available in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive guises. The latter will use specially developed AMG technology, improving acceleration and road holding in wet and wintry conditions.
Mercedes has added to the S-Class’ reputation for safety with a new roll-over system. Gas canisters instead of springs will be used to help ensure passenger protection remains as good as the Coupe.
This isn’t a cheap car. Costing £106,000 – its around £10,000 more than the S-Class Coupe. For that price you’ll be getting one of the most luxurious and comfortable four-seater cabriolets on the market.
