Mazda has announced the introduction of the new Sport Black special edition trim for the 2 supermini. The new trim level introduces some sporty-looking add-ons to set the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa rival apart from the rest of the range.

The new model takes the SE-L Nav version as a starting point – which includes all-round electric windows, air-con, and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav, DAB radio, and aux and Bluetooth connections for mobile devices. The Sport Black adds 16-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass and rear parking sensors.
Despite being known as the Sport Black, the colour choices are red or white and both are no-cost options. The front splitter, side skirts and a rear spoiler, however, are finished in contrasting black. The Sport Black also gets a chromed exhaust tip and optional graphic stripes. The door mirrors can also be finished in either red or black.
One engine choice is available – the 1.5-litre 89hp petrol unit which is found elsewhere in the Mazda 2 range. It helps the 2 along to a brisk 0-62mph time of 9.4 seconds and returns a claimed 62.8mpg.
When can I have one?
Priced from £15,395, the extra goodies of the sport Black add £1,000 to the asking price of a standard SE-L Nav model. Order books for the new model will open from the beginning of September.
