2016 Renault Clio R.S. – what you need to know

Renault has released details of its upgraded Clio R.S. – a car the French firm hopes will draw customers away from the likes of the Fiesta ST200. Not only does its 1.6-litre engine produce more power than the Ford, but a number of chassis upgrades should help it keep up in the corners, too. Read on for full details…

The R.S can be distinguished from the standard Clio by its aggressive front bumper with fog lights styled to look like chequered flags. At the rear, a roof-mounted spoiler is joined by a diffuser and twin-exit exhaust pipes to give the Clio R.S. a distinctly sporty appearance.

Customers will be able to configure the new car’s chassis to meet their requirements. As standard, it comes with a RenaultSport tuned setup with 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels while a strengthened Cup chassis is also available. Buyers looking for the most track-focussed model, however, will likely choose the high-spec Trophy. This version has been lowered by 20mm at the front, and 10mm at the rear to offer improved handling.

Its 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine is offered with two power outputs – 200hp and 220hp – and drives the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. As a result, the most potent R.S. with its new launch control system is capable of accelerating to 62mph from rest in just 6.6 seconds.

New Renault Clio GT Line trim

The rest of the Clio range will receive a new GT Line appearance pack option, available to order from September 2016. This package features visual upgrades including metal air scoops on the front bumper, new side skirts and exclusive 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels.
