Vauxhall Insignia gets Apple CarPlay and OnStar tech

The Vauxhall Insignia is now available with both Apple CarPlay and Vauxhall OnStar assistance systems as part of an updated infotainment package.

OnStar is fitted as standard to VXR, Limited Edition and Elite models, and gives drivers the option to turn their car into a WiFi hotspot using a 4G antenna. The same features, ranging from road-side assistance to vehicle diagnostics, from other models are also included and should help give occupants peace of mind behind the wheel.

Apple CarPlay has been designed to allow drivers to seamlessly connect their iPhone (fifth-generation onwards) to the eight-inch dashboard mounted touchscreen to make use of Apple maps and news services.

Phone calls, text messages and music-playback are all supported by Apple’s ‘Siri’ voice activation software allowing drivers to safely keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

The Insignia’s interior remains visually unchanged, a display in the instrument binnacle relays crucial information to the driver while additional functions are controlled and monitored through the eight-inch touchscreen display. Vauxhall notes that video playback is only possible when the vehicle is stationary, just in case you felt the urge to catch-up on Antiques Roadshow on the go.

The basic infotainment system comes at no extra cost on Design, SRi, VX-Line and Elite models while lower-spec models feature it as a £1,000 optional extra. Customers wishing to upgrade their Energy, Limited Edition or SE model Insignia with Apple CarPlay will have to shell-out £350 more.
