Volkswagen has released two new special edition versions of the Scirocco sports coupe. Known as the GT Black Edition and R-Line Black Edition, the pair gain subtle detail changes to help them stand out from the rest of the range.
As the names suggest, the new models are based on the GT and R-Line trim levels respectively. Both feature black alloy wheels (measuring 18 inches for the GT, 19 inches for the R-Line) plus door mirrors, roof and rear spoiler all finished in black, while the look is completed by heavily tinted rear windows.
As with the rest of the Scirocco ranges, the Black Editions feature LED head and tail lights, a 6.5-inch infotainment system featuring DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity, and auto headlights and wipers. Over and above the GT’s front and rear parking sensors, navigation system and black roof lining, the R-Line gains electrically adjustable leather sports seats, carbon-look dash inserts and an R-Line specific body kit.
Scirocco Black Edition engines
The engine lineup of the Black Edition models are the same as the standard versions. Two petrols — a 123 horsepower 1.4-litre and a 178hp 2.0-litre — are joined by two versions of the same 2.0-litre diesel, offering either 148 or 181hp. All four are equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but the 2.0-litre units are available with a six-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox as a £1,500 option.
Scirocco Black Edition prices
Prices start at £23,135 for the 1.4 TSI-powered GT Black Edition. That’s £550 more than a regular GT, but given the 18-inch alloy wheels and tinted windows would usually cost an extra £680 alone, it represents tempting value for money. The Black Edition models are available to order now, with deliveries starting in January.
