You’ll be able to choose from three trim levels in your Scala – including S, SE and SE L. Basic S models get 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, leather-trim on the steering wheel, gear and handbrake levers, a height adjustable driver’s seat and air-conditioning. To that lot, you can add DAB digital radio, front and rear electric windows and the company’s basic infotainment system with a 6.5-inch screen. Safety kit includes front head and side airbags, automatic emergency brakes, lane assist, a speed limiter and Emergency Call that’ll call the emergency services automatically if the car is involved in a serious accident.

Mid-range SE models start from £18,580 and add cruise control, rear parking sensors, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, get an umbrella hidden in the driver’s door and a height adjustable passenger seat. Starting from £20,380, SE L models top the range and get Skoda’s high-end 9.2-inch glass touchscreen infotainment screen and the company’s digital cockpit display. To that they add suede-style interior upholstery, climate-control air conditioning, keyless entry with start-stop and a multifunction trip computer. They also get a smartened up exterior thanks to 17-inch alloy wheels, full LED rear lights, dynamic indicators that scroll in the direction you’re turning and privacy glass on the rear windows.

Three engine options will be available from launch. Petrols include a 1.0-litre TSI with 95 or 115hp and a 1.5-litre TSI with 150PS. The Scala’s only diesel option is a 115hp 1.6-litre TDI. All engines, except fot the 95hp petrol, can be had with an optional quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Orders for the new Scala open in May, with first deliveries expected in the summer.
