Ford is taking on the might of the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and new Honda HR-V with the Fiesta-based EcoSport. Ruggedly styled and featuring a practical interior, the now facelifted EcoSport promises to be better than ever. Let’s take a look at the Ford’s key measurements to see if it’ll fit into your life.
Ford EcoSport exterior dimensions
The EcoSport is on the smaller side when it comes to rivals – at just over four metres long, it’s a little shorter than the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur and around the same size as the Mini Countryman. The Honda HR-V and Vauxhall Mokka are over 250mm longer, meaning the EcoSport can end up looking a bit top-heavy given it’s both narrower and taller than rivals.
Ford has now made the rear-mounted spare wheel optional but, when fitted, it adds 256mm to the overall length.
|Length (including spare wheel)||4,017mm (4,273mm)|
|Width including mirrors||2,057mm|
Ford EcoSport interior dimensions
Inside, the EcoSport’s smaller exterior dimensions thankfully don’t have too much effect on passenger space. Headroom is class-leading thanks to that taller roofline and, while three adults might not fit in the rear as easily as rivals, they have adequate space for their legs – rear legroom is an impressive 150mm greater than the Juke.
Ford EcoSport luggage capacity
Luggage carrying ability can’t really be seen as a major selling point for the EcoSport. It has noticeably more luggage space than its Fiesta sibling and even the larger Ford Focus but, when compared to rivals, the EcoSport falls short – the Honda HR-V has nearly 50 per cent more capacity with the seats up.
What’s worse is the EcoSport’s boot door only opens on the side and doesn’t lift up like the majority of cars on sale. The problem is exacerbated when the optional rear-mounted spare tyre is specified, meaning you have to think carefully about where you park.
|Boot space seats up||333 litres|
|Boot space seats folded||1,238 litres|
Ford EcoSport turning circle and fuel tank
The EcoSport’s 10.6m turning circle is about average in class and is the same as the Honda HR-V’s, but larger than the Renault Captur’s tight 10.4m radius. The fuel tank is a useful size though, and the choice of economical engines should see a range of between 610 and 675 miles on a full tank – only marginally less than rivals.
|Turning circle||10.6 metres|
|Fuel tank||52 litres|
Ford EcoSport weights and towing limits
Considering its small size compared to rivals, it’s a little surprising that the EcoSport isn’t lighter, but it isn’t the heaviest and the more powerful engines should deliver adequate acceleration. Towing limits are low, but that’s to be expected for a vehicle in this class.
|Towing limits (automatic models)||750kg (400kg)|
