Car changing is a big deal
Stellantis has recalled 44,000 cars in the UK over a potential fire risk linked to its 1.2-litre mild-hybrid engines used across brands such as Citroen, Peugeot, Vauxhall and Fiat. Here’s what you need to know and how to check if your car is affected.
Around 44,000 cars in the UK are being recalled by Stellantis due to a potential safety issue affecting its 1.2-litre mild-hybrid engines in cars built between 2023 and 2026, used across brands including Citroen, Peugeot and Vauxhall.
The issue involves a possible contact between the engine’s gasoline particulate filter (GPF) pipe and the starter-generator protection cap. If the two components touch, it could allow water to enter the engine bay and, in rare cases, lead to overheating or a fire risk.
Stellantis UK said it will contact affected owners and ask them to book an appointment with their local dealer to have the protection cap replaced. The repair will be carried out free of charge and is expected to take around 30 minutes.
Dealers will replace the protection cap and check the spacing between components. If necessary, the pipe will be adjusted or replaced to ensure safe clearance.
While Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Jeep models have not yet appeared in official recall notices, Reuters reports they are included in the wider global remedial action. Overall, around 700,000 vehicles are affected worldwide.

What to do if your car is being recalled
If you think your vehicle might be affected, don’t panic – recalls are common and repairs are free. Here’s what to do:
1. Check your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
You can find your VIN on your windscreen, inside the driver’s door, or on your V5C logbook. Enter it on your manufacturer’s website to see if your car is included.
2. Wait for (or act on) a recall letter
Manufacturers will contact registered owners directly, but letters can take time. If you suspect your car is affected, don’t wait.
3. Book a dealer appointment
If your vehicle is included, contact an authorised dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair.
4. Look out for warning signs
Most cars won’t show symptoms, but be alert for burning smells, warning lights, or unusual heat or noise from the engine bay. If these appear, stop driving and seek assistance.
