The SsangYong Turismo has been improved with an EU6-compliant engine that offers more efficiency and power then the outgoing unit. Other notable changes include a new seven-speed automatic gearbox from Mercedes that’s been added to the line-up.
SsangYong hopes these changes, along with its attractive price, will keep this seven-seat family MPV competitive in 2016. Put the SsangYong Turismo in our car configurator to see how much carwow could help you save.
New SsangYong Turismo engine and gearbox
The only engine in the range is a 2.2-litre diesel also borrowed from Mercedes. Tweaks to its running cycle means it now complies with stricter EU6 regulations. The result is a big leap in both efficiency and performance – there’s now 175hp on offer, along with an increase in torque. While power is up, emissions are down – it produces 10g/km of CO2 less than the old model. Fuel efficiency is superior too, achieving an average of 39.2mpg over the previous 37.2.
The other major enhancement is the availability of a seven-speed Mercedes automatic gearbox. It’s a major improvement over the previous unit and improves both acceleration and efficiency. If you opt for ELX trim, the Turismo can also be specced with a four-wheel-drive system that’s ideal for wintery conditions or towing.
Any other changes?
While there are minimal enhancements to the outside or the practical seven-seat interior, the suspension has seen some improvements – double wishbones at the front along with a revised multi-link setup at the rear promise executive saloon-like comfort for all seven occupants.
SsangYong Turismo price and release date
The updated Turismo is in showrooms now and, costing from £18,995 for an SE model, it’s one of the cheapest big seven-seaters you can buy. Coupled to the unlimited-mileage five-year warranty, it should prove to be excellent value for money, too.
