This is the new BMW i3 Touring, an estate version of the radical-looking electric saloon car for those who want something a bit more practical. Here’s everything we know so far.
The new BMW i3 saloon is going on sale imminently, and the Touring version will be hot on its heels. We first learned of this electric estate car during the reveal of the i3 back in March, when BMW’s CEO Oliver Zipse said that it was a favourite with families so it makes sense to make a Touring version.
Now our spy photographers spotted the new BMW i3 Touring during development testing at the Nurburgring in Germany, giving you a first look at the boxy styling before it’s revealed towards the start of 2027.

The rear end is the main point of focus for the new BMW i3 Touring, because that’s where all the changes lie over the saloon version.
Just like the current BMW 3 Series Touring, the i3 has a sportier, more sloped roofline compared to the Mercedes C-Class Estate. You can also just about see the slim taillights poking through the wrap. They’re a similar shape to the i3 saloon, and unlike the Audi A5 Avant there’s no full-width light bar.
When you look at the car from the front, there are no changes to report compared to the saloon. It has the same wide, illuminated kidney grilles and aggressive-looking nose as that car.

BMW hasn’t confirmed any technical specs for the i3 Touring, but it’ll be the same underneath as the saloon. This means you can expect a 108kWh battery pack and a dual-motor setup with 469hp.
The i3 saloon has a whopping 560 miles of range, making it the longest-range EV you can get in the UK. The Touring may fall slightly short of this thanks to its less svelte shape, but it’s likely to do around 550 miles on a charge.

If you look closely through the windows of this test car, you’ll spot the Panoramic iDrive infotainment system from the i3 saloon. It’s basically a massive head-up display which spans the entire width of the windscreen, and it’s paired to a large central touchscreen.
You may not be able to see the full dashboard, but it’ll look almost identical to the saloon version inside. That means a modern, high-tech look, just with the potential for a bit more rear passenger space and a more practical boot.
When can I buy the new BMW i3 Touring?
The BMW i3 saloon is going on sale in the next couple of months, but you’ll have to wait until 2027 to get your hands on the Touring. A full reveal is expected at the end of 2026, with order books opening early next year.
There’s no word on pricing yet either, and that goes for the saloon as well. We expect the saloon to cost around £55,000, with the Touring fetching closer to £60,000.
