We’ve analysed almost 85,000 configurations and sales from our car configurator to see which cars are the most popular in various UK regions. If one thing’s clear, it’s that there’s still a north-south divide in the UK.
The UK’s favourite car as a whole is the Volkswagen Golf, whereas northern and Scottish buyers prefer the Ford Fiesta. Glaswegians don’t fit the norm, however, thanks to their love of the rapid Volkswagen Golf R.
The data shows another trend – notably the popularity of cars near their birthplaces. The Nissan Qashqai is the most popular car where it’s made in Sunderland, whereas the Vauxhall Mokka is popular in Luton, Vauxhall’s hometown.
Take a look at the maps below and let us know if you’re proudly bucking the trend in your area!
Most popular cars in London
If we take a closer look at the Capital we notice a preference for the Range Rover Sport in Knightsbridge, while residents around Canary Wharf opt for the Mercedes C-Class. The Golf is the most popular car overall among Londoners, however.
Most popular cars in Birmingham
The overall most popular car in Birmingham is the Ford Fiesta, but there are disparities across the city. Buyers in the more wealthy region around Edgbaston opt for the posher Mercedes C-Class.
Most popular cars in Manchester
The trends across Manchester again follow the money. The most popular car in the Alderley Edge region – known as the home of many Premier-League footballers – is the Audi Q5, whereas the most popular car overall in the city is the more humble (but still brilliant) Volkswagen Polo.
