Leapmotor B05 Ultra: the Chinese electric hot hatch which you can’t buy…yet

The Leapmotor B05 is an electric family hatchback which is coming to the UK soon, but the Ultra is a sporty performance model which hasn’t been confirmed for our shores just yet. Should Leapmotor sell this car here? Let’s take a look at the stats to find out.
This is the Leapmotor B05 Ultra, and it’s a hotted-up version of the Chinese brand’s new electric hatchback with 241hp and rear-wheel drive. Leapmotor’s lineup has been a bit vanilla until this point, with a selection of dull-but-worthy electric SUVs. Could this new hot hatch be the car to change this?
Well, not yet. The new B05 Ultra is going on sale in China very soon, but UK and European sales haven’t been confirmed. Leapmotor refuses to rule out a UK launch though, so you might see this car hit our roads in 2027.

New Leapmotor B05 Ultra motors and performance
On the face of it, the Leapmotor B05 has all the makings of a cracking hot hatch. It has a single electric motor powering the rear wheels, and it puts out 241hp.
That means 0-62mph is dealt with in 5.9 seconds, which is exactly the same as a Volkswagen Golf GTI, and it’s pretty light for an electric car as well. The B05 Ultra tips the scales at 1,665kg, roughly the same as an Abarth 600e.
Leapmotor also says this car has a near 50-50 weight distribution front to back, which is something you usually hear about on BMW’s hot M cars. It basically means the car should feel balanced and agile through the corners.

The Leapmotor B05 Ultra also gets a handful of sporty styling upgrades, although it’s still not exactly a wild-looking thing.
It gets a different set of 19-inch alloy wheels to the standard car, as well as a deeper and more aggressive-looking front bumper. There are also some sporty-looking side skirts, as well as a neat boot spoiler at the rear.
Inside you get sports seats which are heated and ventilated, and they also have a massage function. The rest of the interior layout is pretty standard though, with a large central touchscreen housing most of your controls.
New Leapmotor B05: when can I buy one?
The standard Leapmotor B05 will go on sale in the UK in the coming weeks with a starting price of around £30,000, but there’s no sign of the Ultra coming to our showrooms just yet.
It’s available to order in China right now, and Leapmotor hasn’t ruled out a UK or European launch. If the B05 Ultra does come to us, expect it to be in 2027 at the earliest with a price tag of around £35,000.
