Chinese cars continue to make their mark on UK roads, offering a mix of style, tech, and value that’s hard to ignore. So far this year, the Jaecoo 7 and Omoda 5 have already climbed into the top 10 best-selling cars.

I’ve crunched the numbers to see which Chinese cars were the most popular among visitors to Carwow so far this year. And the list below shows the share of requested offers from people who completed configurations on our platform.

1. Jaecoo 7

First up is the Jaecoo 7, which not only tops the list for interest among Carwow users so far this year, it ranks among the UK’s top-selling cars, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. This SUV comes with plenty of standard equipment, is easy to drive in town, and offers a posh interior. However, it isn’t as comfortable as some alternatives and is quite noisy on the motorway.

2. Chery Tiggo 8

Taking second place is a spacious, seven-seater SUV that’s incredibly good value for money. The Chery Tiggo 8 has plenty of technology that works well and has a high-quality interior. That said, it’s rather disappointing to drive and it has a tiny boot when all the seats are up.

3. BYD Seal U

Rounding out the podium is the BYD Seal U. This is a budget-friendly hybrid SUV with a spacious cabin, an efficient 1.5-litre hybrid engine, and a crisp 15.6-inch touchscreen. It also delivers strong value compared with pricier alternatives such as the Volkswagen Tiguan. That said, it’s uncomfortable over bumps, the cabin materials are cheap, and its styling is fairly generic.

4. Omoda 5

The Omoda 5 is also popular among Carwow browsers. This SUV has eye-catching looks, comes with lots of standard equipment, and has a solid interior. It’s let down, however, but its poor engine selection and it has an awkward infotainment system.

5. Jaecoo E5

If you’re looking for an affordable electric SUV, the Jaecoo E5 is worth a look. It offers a claimed range of up to 248 miles, plenty of cabin storage, and a responsive infotainment system, delivering strong value for money. However, if you regularly drive long distances, its relatively slow charging speeds can be a drawback.

6. MG HS

Also making the top 10 is the MG HS. This family-sized SUV features a stylish interior, plenty of standard kit, and a choice of petrol, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid engines. The PHEV version offers an impressive 75-mile electric range, along with generous rear-seat and boot space. However, the infotainment can be fiddly, and it’s not the most exciting SUV to drive.

7. Chery Tiggo 7

Next up is the Chery Tiggo 7. It has an excellent hybrid engine, a roomy interior, and we find it quiet and refined on the motorway. It’s a shame that it’s not much fun on a twisty road and its infotainment system is awkward to use.

8. BYD Seal

This electric saloon is also popular among Carwow users. We find this car rather handsome-looking, has plenty of equipment, and is comfortable yet fun to drive. That said, its boot isn’t the biggest or most practical, and its range of up to 354 miles isn’t as much as the Tesla Model 3.

9. Omoda 7

This comfortable family SUV was also a favourite among Carwow browsers. We think this car has a rather refined plug-in hybrid engine, has plenty of standard kit, and it’s very capable on a good road. However, the infotainment menus are complicated and the boot is a bit shallow.

10. Chery Tiggo 9

Rounding out the top 10 is the Chery Tiggo 9. This large seven-seater not only looks smart, it has a superb hybrid powertrain and comes with an impressive level of kit too. You will find some cheap-feeling interior plastics inside, though, and it’s floaty and wayward to drive.
