Car changing is a big deal
From spacious SUVs to compact cars, consumer writer Siobhan Doyle rounds up the best Chinese cars on the Motability Scheme and what makes them worth considering.
Chinese brands are shaking up the UK car market, offering impressive levels of equipment, comfort and value for money. The Jaecoo 7, for example, has been the UK’s best-selling car for the second consecutive month, showing just how popular these newcomers have become.
There are currently 22 Chinese models available on the Motability Scheme, which allows eligible drivers to lease a brand-new car using their mobility allowance. But which are worth considering? I’ve picked out the best options, focusing on models that offer plenty of space, comfort and practicality.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
1. MG ZS

The MG ZS is a great choice for Motability users thanks to its high driving position, roomy cabin and easy access, making getting in and out less of a struggle. There’s plenty of space for passengers and a folding wheelchair in its large boot, while generous equipment and an efficient hybrid option add to its everyday appeal. It might not be the most polished SUV on the road, but its practicality, comfort and strong value make it a compelling Motability choice.
2. BYD Seal U

If space, comfort and effortless everyday driving are high on your wishlist, then the BYD Seal U is well worth considering on Motability. This roomy plug-in hybrid SUV offers generous rear legroom for passengers, plenty of space for mobility equipment and a comfortable driving position. Light steering, a quiet, refined engine and a 360-degree camera also make everyday journeys and parking less of a chore. Its Comfort model covers up to 78 miles on electric power alone, which is ideal for quieter, cheaper local journeys.
3. Omoda 7

Comfort and practicality are where this SUV really shines. The Omoda 7 has plenty of room for rear passengers, while its generous 639-litre boot leaves ample space for a folding wheelchair, mobility aids and everyday shopping. Light steering makes parking and navigating tight streets easier, while the smooth plug-in hybrid engine and 56-mile electric range offer welcome flexibility for shorter journeys.
4. MG4 Urban

If you’re looking for an alternative that’s not an SUV, the MG4 Urban is a smart, practical choice for Motability users. Its generous 479-litre boot, wide opening and 98 litres of extra underfloor storage make it particularly appealing for carrying a folding wheelchair. There’s also plenty of rear-seat space, while its higher driving position makes getting in and out easier. Opt for the Premium trim and you get a height-adjustable boot floor to make loading mobility equipment easier.
5. Chery Tiggo 8

Last up is the Chery Tiggo 8, a seven-seater that could be a great fit for Motability users who need extra room for family, friends or carers. Our 2026 Car of the Year offers a premium-feeling interior, plenty of useful technology and a choice of petrol or plug-in hybrid power. The main drawback is that boot space becomes very limited with all seven seats in use, while the unusual rear-view mirror takes some getting used to.
