Mat’s Car of the Day: forget the new Mercedes C-Class EV – buy a used EQE instead

There can be no doubt that the new Mercedes C-Class Electric is an impressive bit of kit, but for this money you could have a nearly-new example of a more luxurious car. Mat Watson explains the pros and cons of buying a second-hand Mercedes EQE.
When I tested the new Mercedes C-Class Electric back in July, I was really impressed with the comfort, technology and spacious interior. However, there was one thing nagging me.
It costs almost £60,000, rising to over £70,000 for a top-spec car. Out of curiosity, I headed to Carwow to see what sort of deals you can get on a used Mercedes EQE, a car from the class above, and I was surprised by what I found.

Used Mercedes EQE deals – depreciation could be your best friend
I feel sorry for anyone who bought a Mercedes EQE brand new, because judging by the used prices they’ve lost a fortune.
I found a 2025 EQE with less than 10,000 miles on the clock for £42,490. It’s a high-spec AMG Line Night Edition Premium Plus, meaning it would’ve cost almost £87,000 when new.
So not only can you get it for half the price of a new one, it’s also nearly £20,000 cheaper than a new Mercedes C-Class Electric.
As standard, this car comes with heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, rear climate control, a 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control which can steer to keep you in lane. It also has up to 383 miles of range, which may be almost 100 miles short of the C-Class Electric but it’s still impressive for a car of this size.
Three good things about the Mercedes EQE
So why should you consider a used Mercedes EQE? Here are my three favourite features after testing the car.
1. It’s super-comfortable
As a long-distance cruiser, the Mercedes EQE is pretty hard to beat. It’s super-quiet and refined on the motorway, and the autonomous driving aids also work really well to keep the stress at bay. I could go for hours behind the wheel of an EQE without any fatigue at all.
2. It’s packed with great tech
The 12.8-inch infotainment screen in the EQE is really clear, responsive and easy to use – I don’t even mind that you have to control the climate settings through it. It also has some really clever features, such as the augmented reality sat nav system which uses the front-facing camera to project directions onto the road ahead. Good luck missing your exit now.
3. The awesome Burmester sound system
The AMG Line Premium Plus gets a Burmester sound system as standard, and that makes it worth upgrading on its own. If you like your music, you’ll really appreciate how punchy and clear it is when you crank up the volume.
Three annoying things about the Mercedes EQE
It’s not all good news with the Mercedes EQE. Here are three drawbacks to consider before buying one.
1. It’s not all that spacious
Considering the EQE is a larger car than the C-Class Electric, I found it’s not actually any more spacious in the back seats. You sit quite low to the floor, which makes it feel like your knees are around your ears, and there’s not all that much room to stretch out. A BMW i5 is better for rear passengers.
2. The boot is below-par
The 420-litre boot may be a bit bigger than a Porsche Taycan or an Audi e-tron GT, but unlike the EQE those cars have a front boot. The C-Class Electric also has 470 litres on offer, as well as storage under the bonnet.
3. It looks pretty dull
Compared to an Audi e-tron GT, the Mercedes EQE looks plain boring. I get that it’s been designed with aerodynamics in mind, but it just reminds me of one of those flat Apple mice which has melted a bit.
