This is the new, electric, Mercedes GLC, and it’s a dramatic departure from the old EQC with a tech-heavy cabin and bold new styling. Here’s what you need to know:

  • New Mercedes GLC revealed
  • Electric SUV replaces the EQC
  • Enormous new take on the Mercedes grille
  • AI-powered, 39.1-inch screen on the dashboard
  • Optional four-wheel steering
  • On sale in early 2026

Mercedes has just taken the wraps off the new Mercedes GLC, and it’s a total ground-up redesign for its best-selling model with all-new styling and a futuristic cabin. It’s in no way related to the current GLC either.

You can think of it as an alternative to cars like the recently-revealed BMW iX3 and the Audi Q6 e-tron, and it’s likely to cost between £60,000 and £70,000 when it goes on sale next year.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

New Mercedes GLC motors and performance

The new electric model will be sold alongside the current GLC which offers a very wide range of petrol, diesel and hybrid engines.

The range-topping GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology is the sole model that’s been announced, with 483hp from its electric motors, four-wheel drive and a two-speed gearbox for more efficient long-distance cruising.

Its 94kWh battery and 443-mile range isn’t quite enough to challenge the new BMW iX3’s whopping (claimed) 500 miles to a charge, and while Mercedes’ 800-volt electrical system means the GLC can handle charging rates of up to 330kW, that still lags behind the iX3’s 400kW potential.

New Mercedes GLC chassis and suspension

The GLC also gets an all-new air suspension system, based on the flagship S-Class. The old EQC wasn’t particularly comfortable to drive, but the new air suspension used trick sensors and Google Maps data to pre-adjust the suspension for the road you’re driving on. Clever.

You can raise and lower the GLC at the press of a button, which should make life easier should you end up on an unexpected rocky trail on your journey.

Optional four-wheel steering reduces the turning circle from 12.1 metres to 11.2 metres, while on the motorway the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front pair for stable lane changes.

New Mercedes GLC design

The new GLC has a totally different look to the petrol-powered car at the front, with a full-height grille dominated by an enormous three-pointed star and Mercedes-logo graphics in the headlights. You can opt for your grille with a chrome surround or body colour, for a sportier look.

Mercedes has given the new GLC EV even smoother, curvier flanks than the current car, getting rid of the sharp creases over the wheel arches and giving it a less-boxy silhouette and side window shape.

At the back is a chunky, full-width light bar with an LED design inspired by the bonkers AMG XX concept car and the new CLA electric.

When can I buy the new Mercedes GLC EV?

The new GLC electric is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2026. As the old EQC started at a price of around £65,000, you can expect the new model to start from around £70,000 – before options, of course – while the top-range car could start from over £80,000.
