Citroen SpaceTourer: price, specs and release date

The all-new practical Citroen SpaceTourer MPV will make its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show – here’s what we know so far…
Citroen is set to unveil the all new SpaceTourer at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The versatile vehicle will be available in three variants, including a 4.6m long model – a first in the market – that can seat up to nine people.
The multipurpose vehicle is built on the same modular EMP2 platform that underpins the C4 Picasso and C4 Cactus. It’ll be offered as an MPV for private use – dubbed ‘Feel’ or as a shuttle for potential commercial buyers – called ‘Business’. The recently announced Peugeot Traveller will share a chassis and body if you’re not sold on the Citroen.
Citroen SpaceTourer styling
The SpaceTourer has simple design features compared to some more stylish Citroen models. Its overall shape is what you might expect from a vehicle of this type yet, despite its van-like look and sliding doors, there are enough curves to lift it above more humble rivals.
The front has a short bonnet with a pair of chrome lines connecting the headlights. Below the lights is a broad, protective bumper with large black air intakes and a set of vertical LED daytime running lights with integrated front fog lights. It’s available in eight body colours and optional 17-inch alloy wheels.
Citroen SpaceTourer interior
Citroen says the new SpaceTourer platform will seat up to nine people and offer exceptional leg room for occupants. Passengers are afforded easy access thanks to sliding doors that open exceptionally wide – up to 0.93m depending on the body style. It also offers huge boot volumes in the right configuration – up to 2,932 litres for the XL version with five seats.
The private passenger Feel version is available in three lengths, with five, seven or eight seats – nine seats will only be offered on the commercial Business version. The interior is modular allowing owners to slide the seats forwards or backwards to increase cargo volume or add legroom. Its seats can also be folded down so you can take advantage of the SpaceTourer’s vast length.
Other key features include a new seven-inch infotainment touchscreen, a mirror screen system allowing more advanced smartphone pairing, sat nav, a head-up display, adaptive headlights that switch automatically between main and dipped beams, a reversing camera and an advanced stability control feature.
Citroen SpaceTourer engine
The Citroën SpaceTourer is available with four efficient diesel engines. Options include an entry-level BlueHDi 95 that returns 51.4mpg or 54.3mpg when fitted with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The most efficient option is the slightly more powerful BlueHDi 115 that averages 55.4mpg while emitting 133g/km of CO2. Top spec models get a BlueHDi 180 fitted as standard with an automatic ‘box – that model can still return a respectable 48.7mpg.
Citroen SpaceTourer driving
Thanks to more advanced suspension than many van-like rivals the SpaceTourer claims to have precise steering and excellent body control. A newly developed rear suspension setup is said to help dampen body motions effectively while not encroaching on cargo room.
Citroen SpaceTourer price
Prices for the new Citroen have not yet been confirmed. We expect prices to be in the region of £23,000 for the basic model possibly rising to nearly £40,000 for top-spec versions.
Citroen SpaceTourer release date
The on sale date for the SpaceTourer hasn’t been announced but it’ll make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016. We expect it to reach showrooms towards the end of 2016.
