Mat’s Car of the Day: a used Audi Q4 e-tron is a great alternative to the new A2

Mat Watson was impressed with Audi’s new entry-level electric car, but for the same price you could get a whole lot more for your money on the used market.
The Audi A2 is back, and this time it’s electric. The new A2 e-tron is shaping up to be a great little EV, with plenty of tech, interior space and impressive driving range. It’s priced well, too – starting from just over £30,000.
However, if you can’t wait until next year for the new A2, or you want something a bit posher, I’ve found some great deals on used examples of the Audi Q4 e-tron.

Used Audi Q4 e-tron deals: why this car is a bit of a bargain
The Audi Q4 e-tron usually starts from just over £46,000, which is more than a top-spec Audi A2 e-tron. However, through Carwow you can get a used Q4 for as little £21,000 at the time of writing.
This is the one which stood out to me, though. It’s a 2026 Black Edition with just 3,000 miles on the clock, and it’s up for just under £40,000. That’s about the same as a mid-spec A2 e-tron will cost.
It’s also more than £15,000 cheaper than this car cost when it was new, and it comes with heated leather seats, a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control and wireless smartphone mirroring.
Why should you buy the Audi Q4 e-tron?
There’s a lot to like about this posh EV, and here are three of my favourite features.
1. It’s really relaxing to drive
It may not be a thrill ride, but the Audi Q4 e-tron is a really low-stress way of ferrying you and your family around. The suspension copes with bumps really nicely, it’s quiet at speed and it’s got enough grip to inspire confidence on a twisty road.
2. The interior is really roomy
The Q4 e-tron has more spacious rear seats than something like a Mercedes EQA, and it’s comfortable for four adults as well. If you’re got a growing family, I reckon this is a better bet than the new A2 e-tron.
3. The interior feels posh
One of the reasons I’d consider a used Audi Q4 e-tron over a new one is the interior. It was updated in 2026 with Audi’s new interior layout, which is much more screen-heavy than before, and I prefer the way the old car’s cabin looked. The car I’ve picked has the older cabin, but whichever car you go for, the materials all feel really premium.
Three annoying things about the Audi Q4 e-tron
The Audi Q4 e-tron is by no means perfect, and here are three annoying things to consider before buying one.
1. Other cars have bigger boots
The Q4 e-tron has a 515-litre boot, which is smaller than you’ll find in a Skoda Enyaq, Volkswagen ID4 or Tesla Model Y. It’s still 129 litres more than the A2 e-tron though.
2. Optional extras are a bit mean
This is a pretty expensive car, but quite a lot of equipment was optional when it first came out. If you’re looking for a used example, don’t assume it has a reversing camera or adaptive cruise control, because the original owner may not have coughed up for those features.
3. The steering wheel buttons are annoying
Audi has been using these shiny black plastic steering wheel buttons for years now, and I really don’t like them. They show too many fingerprints, they feel cheap and it’s too easy to accidentally press stuff when you’re manoeuvring.
