Colour guide
Metallic - Black sapphire
Free
Black works well on larger, upmarket vehicles, and the X3 really looks imposing in Black sapphire. Higher trims get dark exterior trim which makes this dark hue look even more menacing. Dirt won’t show up easily, although you will need to dry it off properly after a wash to avoid unsightly swirl marks.
Metallic - Brooklyn grey
Free
Grey is a popular colour and Brooklyn grey adds a nice metallic sheen to the bodywork that works well on the X3. You do pay for it on lower trims, so you might want to look at a few other more adventurous hues before you decide.

Metallic - Carbon black
Free
Carbon black has long been a favourite among BMW owners, it combines the sophisticated look of a metallic black with dark blue overtones that are more noticeable depending on the light quality. It is easy to clean and should be a favourite with used car buyers, too.
Metallic - Mineral white
Free
This is the colour to choose if you love the simple elegance of white but would like a bit of added sparkle in the paintwork. The metallic finish on Mineral white does just that, and this is always a safe bet when it comes to resale values.
Metallic - Phytonic blue
Free
Phytonic is a darker shade of blue with a metallic effect that give sit a nice shine when clean. It looks best on sportier trims, where it nicely complements the large alloy wheels and deep front spoiler. Blue is a firm favourite with used car buyers, so your residual values should be good too.
Metallic - Sophisto grey
Free
Sophisto grey is a fair bit darker than Brooklyn grey, and gives the X3 an upmarket and understated presence. It looks great combined with a lighter interior, and will be less fussy to keep clean than a white or light grey colour.
Solid - Alpine white
Free
Alpine white is the default choice for many X3 buyers, thanks to it being the only no-cost option but also because it looks rather good on this mid-sized SUV. It will be popular on the used car market and makes the black exterior trim pop.
Metallic - Skyscraper grey
£695
Skyscraper grey is a light shade that is offered solely on the base trim. It contrasts well with the silver and black exterior trim pieces and looks more sophisticated than a pure white colour, although you do have to pay in for this one.
BMW Individual metallic paint - Tanzanite blue
£1,770
Tanzanite blue is a pricey option as part of BMW's Individual paint schemes, but it's a lovely choice. It's a deep blue with shiny flakes that glisten in direct sunlight, while it takes on an almost purple hue in the shade. At night it's very dark and gives the X3 a rich, sophisticated appearance.
