  • Turbocharged 2.0-litre engine from A45 hot hatch
  • 408hp and 500Nm of torque
  • All-wheel-drive as standard
  • Saloon and estate versions available

The new Mercedes-AMG C43 has been revealed. Think of it as a toned-down version of the upcoming C63, and you’re on the right track.

This alternative to the BMW M340i and Audi S5 gets a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and all-wheel-drive as standard.

New Mercedes-AMG C43 engine and driving

The new Mercedes-AMG C43 will get the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the upcoming AMG C63. Unlike that car though, the C43 does without the hybrid assistance.

This engine is lifted from the Mercedes-AMG A45, however the C43 produces 408hp and 500Nm of torque. This is thanks in part to a clever turbocharger which uses a small electric motor to improve responsiveness and increase boost.

This power is transferred through a nine-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel-drive, a setup which is highly likely to appear on the AMG-C63 as well.

The C43 also gets rear-wheel-steering as standard, making it more agile on a twisty road and more manoeuvrable in town.

New Mercedes-AMG C43 design

As you’d expect, the new Mercedes-AMG C43 gets some aggressive styling details over the standard Mercedes C-Class.

Up front there’s the traditional AMG grille with vertical slats, as well as large air intakes in the lower bumper. The C43 also sits on large 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, however 19 and 20-inch options are available.

You get some sporty side skirts, as well as quad tailpipes at the back. These are circular to distinguish it from the square pipes you’ll find on the C63. A rear diffuser finishes things off.

New Mercedes-AMG C43 interior

It’ll come as no surprise that the new Mercedes-AMG C43 shares its interior design with the C-Class saloon. However, you will find some sporty trinkets to make it look more special.

You get an AMG sports steering wheel with extra dials for the driving modes, as well as some optional alcantara trim. You can also get carbon fibre for the dashboard.

Grippy bucket seats are available as an option, as are some racy red seat belts. The C43 is available as a practical estate for those who want additional practicality.

New Mercedes-AMG C43 price and release date

You can expect to see the new Mercedes-AMG C43 on sale later this year.

As for price, Mercedes hasn’t announced this yet. A starting price of around £60,000 is a safe bet.
