Which of these Tesla Model Y alternatives should you choose?

Car changing is a big deal
They’re almost identical under the skin, but the Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008 each bring a distinct flavour to the electric SUV game. Senior reviews writer Mario Christou compares the two to decide which one you should buy.
Look at them front on and you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008 are the same car. They’ve both got the exact same wide grille, pointy headlights and lion claw-inspired daytime running lights.
Side-on, the differences become clear. Where the E-3008 is a svelte, swoopy coupe-SUV, the E-5008 is an enormous seven-seater; stretched and with a taller roofline. You’ll only pay around £3,000 more for the bigger car though, which begs the question; is it worth the extra?

Well the simple answer is yes, if you’ve got six passengers you need to drive around – that’s fairly obvious. But in day-to-day life, most cars will only have one or two occupants in them at any given time, so the E-3008 makes a case for itself from a pragmatic point of view.
If you live in a town with narrow streets, both cars are easy to manoeuvre thanks to their light steering and good forward visibility, but you’ll have a harder time finding a parking space in the E-5008 being over 20cm longer than its smaller counterpart.

The E-3008 is a touch more agile too; being smaller and lighter makes it a little bit more fun to flick around tight bends and carve through corners. It may be subjective, but its rakish roofline and sporty kick-up boot edge make the E-3008 far more handsome.
But, thinking with your head rather than your eyeballs, it’s hard not to lean towards the E-5008 for its sheer versatility. With the third row folded down, the boot is much bigger than the E-3008 (916 litres vs 520 litres), and even with all seven seats in place there’s as much room for luggage as in an E-208 hatchback.

On top of that, the larger E-5008 feels slightly more stable on the motorway and the undeniable practicality of the extra pair of seats; the scales really are balanced between the two cars.
If you live in town by yourself or you’re a stylish couple who want to stand out from the sea of Teslas on the road, then it’s worth saving some money and buying the stylish E-3008. For families it’s a no-brainer, the spacious E-5008 could be your perfect car, and £3,000 is a small price to pay for not having to leave one of your kids at home.
