Mat’s Car of the Day: the Cupra Formentor is a hot hatch in a family-friendly body

We’ve had a Cupra Formentor on the Carwow long-term fleet for the last six months, and I’ve had my fair share of fun in it on the drag strip. Outside of my drift mode shenanigans, it’s also been a practical daily driver for our social media team.
The only fly in the ointment really is the price, because this car, as tested, costs almost £60,000. Thankfully, there are some great deals available through Carwow to save you some cash.

Cupra Formentor price and specs: which one should you buy?
The Cupra Formentor range kicks off from £35,530, and goes up to north of £50,000. That’s a big price difference, so choosing the right one is important.
If you’re after the most fun Formentor, you’ll want the VZ3 version like we have. It has the same engine as you’ll find in the Volkswagen Golf R, and it costs £55,425.
That’s a lot of money for a small SUV, which is why you’ll want to check out the latest deals with Carwow. You can currently save £8,867 on this version of the Formentor, bringing the price down to £46,558.
That’s about the same as a Volkswagen Golf R, but the Formentor is more practical and, to my eye at least, more exciting to look at.
Cupra Formentor review in brief: what are the pros and cons?
We’ve spent six months with the Cupra Formentor, and in that time it’s proven itself to be a great all-rounder. Check out the full long-term review for our thoughts on this car, but here’s a quick summary.
It’s a brilliant car to drive, managing to be comfortable and fun on a twisty road. I had a great time trying out the drift mode on our drag strip, which uses the car’s stability control to kick the tail out. It’s a right hooligan.
The interior is pretty lovely as well. The carbon bucket seats are similar to the ones you’ll find in an Audi RS3, and all the copper accents help lift things. It’s a more interesting cabin than you’ll find in a Volkswagen Golf R.
It’s not all good news though. You’ll be lucky to get 30mpg from this car if you’re careful – most of the time ours sits at around 27mpg. Some of the driver assistance systems are annoying as well, especially the forward collision warning which chimes in too readily.
Other than that, the Cupra has been a practical, comfortable and fun daily driver. Just make sure you check out the latest deals on Carwow if you fancy one for yourself.
