Ford Edge (2016-2018) interior
The Edge is the largest SUV in the current Ford European range – it’s less than 5cm shorter than a Range Rover Sport yet costs half as much and, as a result, boasts both a spacious interior and a very practical boot.
Style
A combination of soft-touch plastics and gloss black trim pieces set the Ford Edge interior apart from cheaper Ford products and there are numerous practical cubby holes including a generous central storage space.
The £2,000 Lux pack includes heated and cooled front seats with excellent lumbar support, heated rear seats and a panoramic sunroof. This package is only available when paired with a £375 Sony sat-nav system that some drivers might find the awkward to use thanks to its cluttered display.
The instrument binnacle features a mix of digital and analogue gauges that integrate cohesively to present road-signs and sat-nav directions in a clear and concise manner.
There's plenty of space but the design and build quality are behind similarly-priced alternatives

Even entry-level Zetec models get the eight-inch Sync2 touchscreen system but no sat-nav, you’ll have to go for a Titanium model or higher for that. All cars get lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, emergency city braking, auto headlights and wipers, keyless ignition, a heated windscreen and a rear parking camera.
The Sync2 system isn’t the best out there – the screen is sluggish to respond to touches and the graphics look dated. It’s fiddly too, thanks to tiny virtual buttons that are hard to use even at a standstill, and the fact everything just takes too many inputs to achieve.
That said, adding waypoints like petrol stations and other points of interest on your route is a doddle. There’s no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in the Ford Edge either which is a pity. The Edge’s basic 9-speaker sound system is OK, but the Sport model’s upgraded 12-speaker Sony system sounds far bassier and is worth it if you like your tunes. Overall the Ford Edge is a very comfy and spacious family car, however iIt’s held back by a dated infotainment system and sat-nav, and it isn’t particularly stylish inside.
