The last Focus has been built as Ford’s attentions shifts to EVs – marking the end of a 27-year production run
It’s time to say goodbye to the Ford Focus. The last example rolled off the production line last week.
This marks the end of what was once Britain’s best-selling car after 27 years and four generations.
The news was shared by Ford employees on social media, although it comes as no surprise as plans to end Focus production this year were announced in 2022.

The Focus is the second famous name to be taken out of production by Ford in recent years, following the end of the Fiesta in 2023.
Both cars are casualties of the shift to electric vehicles ahead of bans on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 in Britain and 2035 in European markets. The move away from traditional hatchbacks towards crossovers and SUVs hasn’t helped either – the Puma SUV is the most popular Ford among new car buyers, and is the best-selling car of 2025 so far..
Any Ford fans looking for an electric alternative will want to consider the Ford Capri or Ford Explorer. Car buyers who aren’t ready to go electric just yet could look at Ford’s Puma or Kuga.
The Focus has become familiar over nearly three decades, so it’s easy to forget the impact the original car had in the late 1990s. It was a huge leap forward over the Escort it replaced, both in the way it drove and in the radical styling. The first-generation Focus was European Car of the Year in 1999, winning by a landslide.
While future generations didn’t have the same impact as the original, they cemented the Focus’s reputation as the keen driver’s family hatchback of choice.
Although no longer available to order as a new car, the Focus is sure to be a popular used hatchback for many years to come. There are hundreds of used Ford Focus models available to buy through Carwow.
