The shape, supposedly inspired by a pebble, is designed to be modern, minimalist and aerodynamic, and it covers an equally futuristic cabin. The swooping roofline does impact rear space, though, so it isn’t the most practical option in its class.
That said, it is very efficient, so the Ioniq 6 can squeeze 338 miles of range from the 77kWh battery that’s fitted to all models. Admittedly, that figure only applies to the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version with 228hp, but the 325hp, twin-motor, all-wheel-drive version will still manage more than 320 miles on the official economy test.
Whichever version you choose, the Ioniq 6 will be good to drive, albeit at its best on a long motorway cruise. There, the ride is settled and the powertrain is hushed, although there’s a little wind and road noise. Around town, the car feels a bit firmer, but visibility is decent, especially if you choose the conventional mirrors over the cool-but-impractical side cameras.
