Just as we’d finished mourning the death of the R8 supercar, Audi has taken the car world by surprise and unveiled a successor. This is the Nuvolari, and it’s a 1,000hp, £500,000 alternative to the Lamborghini Temerario.

  • New Audi Nuvolari revealed
  • R8 successor uses parts from Lamborghini
  • V8 hybrid system produces 1,000hp
  • 0-62mph in 2.6 seconds
  • Only 499 to be built
  • Costs £500,000

This is the new Audi Nuvolari, and it’s the R8 successor which no one was expecting. It’s not just a rehashed R8 either – under the skin it is entirely new.

It’s an alternative to the Lamborghini Temerario that shares most of its parts with that car. It has the same V8 hybrid system, although it’s more powerful than its Italian counterpart. Only 499 of these cars will ever be made, and it’ll cost £500,000.

New Audi Nuvolari engine and performance

Let’s start with the engine, because the Audi Nuvolari is more powerful than the Lamborghini Temerario with which it shares most of its parts.

Mounted behind the driver is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, which is paired with three electric motors. One of them sits between the engine and gearbox, while the other two power the front wheels. The total output is 1,000hp, 80hp more than the Temerario.

The result is 0-62mph in just 2.6 seconds, a tenth of a second quicker than the Lambo. It can also accelerate from 0-124mph in 6.8 seconds, beating the Temerario by 0.3 of a second.

New Audi Nuvolari design and interior

Let’s not beat around the bush, the Audi Nuvolari looks stunning. It’s not as wild or outlandish as a Lamborghini, it’s much more subtle than that.

It takes inspiration from the Concept C we saw last year, so it has a narrow, upright front grille and slim headlights which blend neatly into the massive air intakes. You can see similarities to the Temerario from the side, it has similar wide hips to that car and the mirrors look the same as well.

That black side blade harks back to the R8 though, and the rear looks like it’s been lifted straight from a race car. The massive diffuser and air vents make it look aggressive, as does the massive central exhaust.

Inside, the Nuvolari has quite a simple, classy cabin. You get a portrait touchscreen, a neat row of buttons for the gear selector and alcantara on the dashboard, and that’s about it. Audi has also focussed on quality with this car. Just like the Concept C, all the switches are solid metal and should operate with a satisfying click.

New Audi Nuvolari price

You’ll have to be quick if you fancy an Audi Nuvolari on your driveway, because just 499 of them will ever be made. They’ll also cost £500,000 each, and deliveries are expected to start in early 2027.

By comparison, a Lamborghini Temerario starts from around £260,000, but you could easily push that close to half a million with options. You could also have a Ferrari 296 GTB for £241,000, but its 3.0-litre V6 hybrid system is 130hp down on the Audi’s V8.
