Volvo XC60 dimensions – UK exterior and interior sizes

The updated XC60 is still the baby of Volvo‘s crossover range, but it’s no mere featherweight. We’ve checked out how it measures up so you can see what fits in it – and if it even fits on your drive!

Exterior dimensions

For the most part the XC60′s update has seen very little change on the outside. The wheelbase and track remain the same, but there’s a fraction more bodywork overhanging the wheels because the overall length has increased by a mere 16mm. Overall width is unchanged too, so if the first generation car went into your garage without a fuss, so will this updated version.

This places the XC60 neatly between the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 – if the bigger Audi fits, the Volvo will too.

Exterior length – 4,644mm
Exterior width (exc. mirrors) – 1,891mm
Exterior width (inc. mirrors) – 2,120mm
Exterior height – 1,713mm
Front track – 1,632mm
Rear track – 1,586mm
Wheelbase – 2,744mm

Interior dimensions

Some subtle repositioning of interior fittings means there’s now an extra 34mm (around an inch and a half) of headroom for the driver and front-seat passenger, while the rear occupants will find their space very familiar – identical to the old XC60. Legroom for all occupants is unchanged too.

Headroom front – 1,025mm
Headroom rear – 1,003mm
Legroom front – 1,047mm
Legroom rear – 924mm

Luggage space

The new model is identical to the old model when it comes to luggage space. You get the same relatively generous hatchback space with the rear seats up and the same impressive capacity with them folded flat. It’s still smaller than its BMW and Audi rivals, but not significantly so.

Boot space (seats up) – 495 litres
Boot space (seats down) – 1,455 litres

Turning circle and fuel tank capacity

As you’d expect from a car of this size, the turning circle is fairly large. While fairly standard for the class, you’ll need nearly twice the width of road to pull a U-turn than you would in a city car so make sure you brush up on your three-point turns!

The fuel tank is standard across the range at 70 litres/15.4 gallons, which gives the XC60 a range of around 700-800 miles depending on the engine – though the powerful T6 will only just about manage 400 miles before needing more fuel. The most frugal versions of the X3 and Q5 rivals will hit a similar 800 mile range limit.

The relatively tank-like proportions and renowned Volvo sturdiness mean the XC60 is not a light car.

Kerb weight – 1,762-1,864kg (T6 1,883kg)
Gross vehicle weight – 2,505kg
