I’d recommend the Changan Deepal S07 because it’s the first UK model from one of China’s largest carmakers, and it really stands out for its styling. It has a sleek, modern look, thanks to its sharp, pointed nose, slim headlights and sporty roofline.
Inside, the cabin feels plush, with plenty of soft-touch leatherette, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a panoramic roof. However, the premium feel is undermined by the wood-effect plastic door trims, while the front headrests aren’t especially comfortable.
Around town, the Deepal S07 is easy enough to drive. Its electric motor gives you smooth, progressive acceleration, while the steering feels light and responsive. However, the suspension is firm, so you’ll notice bumps more. You’ll also hear more wind and road noise at motorway speeds, and it isn’t especially fun to drive on country roads.
