The best-selling EV in the world offers loads of space, a big battery and impressive performance – and it can be yours for less than half the price of a new one

The Tesla Model Y is one of the best all-round electric cars you can buy. It has a long range, a really spacious interior with a gigantic boot, and a seriously high-tech interior. New models are much less costly than you might expect – our preferred Long-Range model still nips in below £50,000 – but there are some real bargains to be had if you shop used.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Buy this used Tesla Model Y from less than £20,000*

A brand-new Tesla Model Y will set you back just under £45,000 for the base model, while the Long-Range Premium costs from just under £50,000. But opting for a used model can give you serious savings.

We’ve found this 2022 car in great condition for just £18,850. It’s not even the entry-level spec, either – it’s the AWD Long Range model, which gets you 384hp and a whopping 331 miles of official range.

It’s a Tesla, so the interior looks pretty barren at first – you don’t even get an instrument cluster. That’s until you realise that almost every feature is controlled through the 15.0-inch central touchscreen, which is where you’ll find built-in Google Maps, downloadable apps like Spotify, and even some games and Easter Eggs.

This model also gets the cost-option black paint, a premium 13-speaker sound system, HEPA-filtration for the climate control system, powered seats, steering column and tailgate, and Tesla’s Autopilot system.

Why should you buy a Tesla Model Y?

The first appeal of a Tesla is just how good the underlying electric components are. This AWD model has a 0-62mph sprint of just 4.8 seconds – faster than many sports cars – yet the real-world range is remarkably close to Tesla’s claim, with around 300 miles possible.

It’ll also fast-charge at up to 250kW, which is impressive for a 2022 car, and gets access to Tesla’s network of Superchargers.

And just because it’s a four-year-old car, you don’t have to put up with four-year-old tech. Tesla’s very good about updating its older models with the latest software, and you can even add the company’s flagship ‘Full Self-Driving’ modes for an extra cost.

What other models should you consider?

Here are three other models you should have a look at if you’re considering a used Tesla Model Y:

Tesla Model 3: less practical, but lower, sleeker, and with a bigger range

Skoda Enyaq: packed with clever touches, but the touchscreen isn’t as good

Hyundai Ioniq 5: standout styling, but not as good to drive
